It may seem a bit odd that systems thinking is the subject of our very first MHA course. The assumption is that students already understand quite a bit about health care from having worked in the industry for a few years. Unfortunately, even mid-level managers are prone to focusing on the day-to-day activities demanded in health care and losing sight of the bigger picture. Systems thinking is always a good approach to the understanding of any situation; what is the cause and effect of all the various components that lead to a situation?
